Word Origin:
from Spanish Apaches de Navajó ‘apaches from Navajo’, from Tewa navahu: ‘fields adjoining an arroyo’.
Culture:
The Navajo are related to the ↑Apache. There are about 100 000 of them, and they live mostly on reservations (= lands given and protected by the US government). They work mainly as farmers. They have also earned money from oil and other minerals on their land. The Navajo are known for weaving carpets and blankets and for making pottery and silver jewellery.
