an area of north London, since 1965 part of the ↑borough of ↑Camden. It is a fashionable place, with many elegant ↑Georgian houses, and still has the character of an attractive village, which it once was. Many writers and musicians live there. Hampstead Heath is a large area of open land where people enjoy walking.
