Burghley House [Burghley House] BrE NAmE
a large and grand house near Peterborough in eastern England, built in the ↑Elizabethan style in the 16th century. The inside of the house was decorated in the ↑baroque style 100 years later, and in the 18th century the gardens were designed by ‚Capability’ Brown. It is also famous for the ↑three-day event, the Burghley Horse Trials.
